Gary,
The recommendation by the manufacture is just that...a recommendation. It is good to always follow recommendations by the manufacture, but don't get sucked into thinking that your bike will immediatley stop working if you surpass what is written on page 34 of the owners manual. I believe, (this is my own opinion), that the dealer will rip you off any chance you give him. Therefore, if the worry of valve adjustments is going to consume you, I recommend that you do the job yourself or find a bike mechanic who will do the same work as the dealer for a fraction of the price. Also, doing your own oil changes is a big money saver, and a bonding moment between man and machine.
Just curious, how many out there in Savage land have ever even adjusted the valves on their bike one time yet? My last adjustment was around 7,000 miles and I am just about to turn 12,000 miles with no plans on adjusting the valves for at least 2,000 more miles. Perhaps a,"FRIGAN", Kawasaki is in my future.
Grace and Peace,
Rooster
